Meditation Quotes for Beginners

  • Meditation is not concentration. Concentration is to narrow down our vision and attention. Where as meditation is to expand our consciousness and allow every thing to come and be aware of it. In Meditation we don't exclude any thing but we become aware of every thing which is noticed by us.

  • Meditation is not prayer. Normal prayer is to ask god for something or other and is mostly done to fulfill the mind desires. Whereas in meditation we witness these desires of mind and do not get identified with our thoughts, feelings or emotions. In fact meditation is the real prayer.

  • We can not control the mind. More we try to control the mind or stop the mind, more it becomes out of control. We don't need to stop the thoughts but we need to become passive watcher of our thoughts.

  • Meditation is not contemplation either because it is not thinking at all -- consistent, inconsistent, crazy, sane. It is not thinking at all; it is witnessing. It is just sitting silently deep within yourself, looking at whatsoever is happening inside and outside both. Outside there is traffic noise, inside there is also traffic noise -- the traffic in the head. So many thoughts -- trucks and buses of thoughts and trains and airplanes of thoughts, rushing in every direction. But you are simply sitting aloof, unconcerned, watching everything with no evaluation. - Osho

  • Meditation does not have any aim or ambition. All these aims belongs to the mind and meditation is all about being witness to the activities of the mind. Some one who makes any goal in meditation is still controlled by the mind. We have to witness all the games and traps of the mind in the meditation.

  • The deeper your watchfulness becomes, the deeper your awareness becomes, and gaps start arising, intervals. One thought goes and another has not come, and there is a gap. One cloud has passed, another is coming and there is a gap. In those gaps, for the first time you will have glimpses of no-mind, you will have the taste of no-mind. Call it taste of Zen, or Tao, or Yoga. In those small intervals, suddenly the sky is clear and the sun is shining. Suddenly the world is full of mystery because all barriers are dropped. The screen on your eyes is no more there. - Osho

  • Meditation is not following any system; it is not constant repetition and imitation. Meditation is not concentration. It is one of the favourite gambits of some teachers of meditation to insist on their pupils learning concentration - that is, fixing the mind on one thought and driving out all other thoughts. This is a most stupid, ugly thing, which any schoolboy can do because he is forced to..- J Krishnamurti

  • Meditation does not mean concentration, it does not mean contemplation: it means getting beyond the mind. Concentration, contemplation, are both of the mind. Meditation means getting unidentified with the mind, seeing the mind as separate, knowing the mind as separate, witnessing the mind but not getting identified with it. Slowly slowly as witnessing grows, the distance grows between you and the mind. Soon the mind is a faraway echo, and finally you cannot even hear the echo; then you are left utterly alone. - Osho

  • Mind will always find one excuse or another for not doing meditation. We should witness all these excuses given by the mind.
